Welcome to the November edition of Boo’s Bulletin.
It is hard to believe that we are putting away the skeletons and pumpkins and are heading into Thanksgiving.
October was a busy month for CAPER. We conquered all forms of media: Print (Cincinnati Magazine), TV (the channel 9 spot) and radio (we were interviewed by Jeff and Jen of Q102).
We presented our “So You Wanna Be a Ghost Hunter” program and it was an overwhelming success. We had a very good turnout and the feedback was positive. Keep checking Boo's Bulletin for future programs.
Halloween was a very exciting night as we partnered with Miamitown Ghost Tours for two special event walks. We passed out EMF meters and the tour participants got to use them as Jeff regaled up with Miamitown’s spooky stories.
We had a lot of fun and are looking forward to doing it again some time.
CAPER is excited to announce that our tech specialist, Matt Hoskins, is celebrating his one year anniversary with CAPER this month.
Congratulations Matt! If you would like some more information about Matt visit our member’s page here. If you would like to send Matt at message you can reach him at: matt@caper.pararesearch.org.

Solar Flares and Ghost Hunting
Solar storms have a strong effect on paranormal activity. A good ghost hunter will certainly take any advantage they can get when preparing for a ghost hunt. So what are solar storms? The sun creating solar flares that send charged particles to the earth, which causes a magnetic shift increasing the geomagnetic fields, causes them. With increased geomagnetic fields, paranormal activity becomes more active.
During active times of solar flares, it has been found that better results are normally achieved. The theory is this: Ghosts pull their energy from electrical sources, such as the batteries in your ghost hunting equipment, TVs and lights etc. When the air is charged with electricity from solar flares, they have much more energy to draw from, hence more activity.
Sunspot activity follows an eleven-year cycle going from maximum to minimum sunspots that cause coronal mass ejections. This year, 2008, we are leaving the bottom of the eleven-year cycle with minimal sunspot activity. Understanding sunspot activity is simple, no sunspots, no coronal mass ejections, and therefore, no solar storms.
It appears that for the next five years or so, solar storms will be will be increasing in numbers compared to what we have experienced over the last five years. So the ghost hunting formula related to weather patterns: Sunspots = Solar Flares = Solar Storms = Magnetic Shift = Increased Geomagnetic Fields = Increased Ghost Activity = Good Time for Investigations.
Happy Hunting!

Last month we took a look at the K-II EMF meter. A popular instrument in paranormal investigations, the K-II measures Electromagnetic Fields, which some research say could indicate the presence of the supernatural. This month we take a look at the digital EMF meter/Teslameter.
Where the K-II meter reads by showing different lights on a scale, the digital model gives you an exact numbered reading. It shows a reading between 0.1 -199.9 mG over the ELF(Extremely Low Frequency) range of 30 - 400 Hz. It is suited for all forms of paranormal phenomena.
The digital EMF is especially useful in obtaining accurate measurements of a room or device’s EMF. Whereas the K-II or a standard ELF meter may only show you a lighted symbol meaning a range of values, the digital will tell you exactly how much EMF you have. It is excellent for obtaining base readings of a location. If you get high readings in that location, you now can compare it to the exact readings you took at the beginning of your investigation in order to determine if it is paranormal. We here at CAPER utilize a digital EMF and consider it one of our most useful tools.

Bobby Mackey's is believed to be haunted. Johanna, a woman who committed suicide there in the 1930's after the murder of her lover is believed to be searching for her lover still today. It's believed that Bobby Mackey, the owner and country singer of the night club, has a connection with Johanna. Bobby Mackey's mom originally named Bobby, Randy. Since then he's changed his name to Robert Randall Mackey according to Author Doug Hensley after doing some research on the Mackey Family. This was the name of Johanna's Lover (Robert Randal). Bobby Mackey's wife to this day fears going to the club. From day one, she has felt a since of danger when in the building. She tells a story about being touched and even attacked by a latter.
Johanna is not the only ghost that is believed to be haunting the country night club. In 1896, two men murdered a pregnant woman who was believed to be one of the murderer's girlfriend at the time, and buried her head in the well located in the basement of the club. Rumor has it that the voices of the murders and the girl can be heard arguing throughout the building. Larry Hornsby, a night security guy for the club has heard these voices behind the stage where Bobby Mackey plays. One of the locals tells a story about seeing a man standing before him one night dressed in clothes from the turn of the century and a late day mustache. When doing some research on what he saw, he noticed a picture of one of the murderers and recognized him as the man he saw. To add to his discomfort, he found a picture of the hanging of the murderers and saw a man that looks like him. He fears that that the ghost is trying to chase him away believing that he had something to do with the sentence. But this is not enough to keep him away. Bobby Mackey denied any ghost stories. From the beginning he did not want to ruin his investment in the club. Today you will see a sign on the wall that states management is not responsible and cannot be held liable for any actions caused by the ghosts.Check out the ghost stories for yourself. Tours of Bobby Mackey’s' haunted basement are now being conducted on Friday and Saturday nights. Click here for more details.

Tech SpecialistGhost Adventurers Falls Short
If I were to mention the names Zak Bagans and Nick Groff, you might have no clue who I’m talking about, even if you were into the paranormal. They aren’t exactly Jay and Grant on the ghost hunting scene, not yet at least. These two make their debut last year in their own ghost hunting documentary, Ghost Adventures that aired on SciFi. I remember watching it when it came out and thinking that it seemed pretty interesting, a little over the top, but the footage they claimed to have obtained was intriguing. Who isn’t amazed by a “ghost” throwing a brick at someone?
When I heard earlier this year that they would be getting their own show on The Travel Channel, I was excited. My anticipation came to an end a few weeks ago when their shoe premiered. We found out a few weeks prior that they would be investigation Bobby Mackey’s place on their first episode. Now the whole group was intrigued. (If you live anywhere in the Cincinnati Tri-State area – you know about Bobby Mackey’s place). It is the mother load of ghost hunts in this area. So like we always to with all the other paranormal shows, we watched. When you watch this type of show from the perspective of a ghost hunter, its’ different. It’s personal. You know that happens on a ghost hunt, so you know what is real and what has been played up.
I am not sure exactly what happened to Zak and Nick in the time between the production of their documentary and the filming on this show. To say they have changed, seems an under statement. Let’s start with the way that they feel it is necessary to be aggressive and rude at every opportunity that presented itself. I started to wonder if I was watching ghost hunting of ghost harassing. I wondered if they thought that this would get them the ratings to compete with the other shows out there – which are much better in my opinion. Maybe they are trying to fill a corner of the paranormal show market that isn’t already being done – perhaps on that should never have been done. You know that one I mean – the “this isn’t even close to reality” one. My first reaction was defense. It was unbelievable to me that any ghost hunter would thing that they would have to cuss out a ghost or violently threaten one to get a reaction. We consider that ghost are nothing more than people that have changed forms. So, would Zak and Nick thing it was okay to talk to people that way to get ratings? Probably no-who knows? Would any of my group ever consider talking to a religious leader in the manner that they conducted themselves? Never. They were aggressive. They were rude. They were totally unprofessional. If e rated the way they did, we wouldn’t have clients. And that is my biggest issue with their new show. It makes all ghost hunters look bad. Ghost hunters just don’t do it that way.
